Camelina, a well-adapted oilseed crop to different climates of Iran

Camelina is an oilseed crop from Brassicaceae family with several positive characteristics which make it possible to cultivate in various regions of Iran. Based on more than five years of cultivation experiences in Iran, the main advantages of Camelina are: drought and frost tolerance, disease and pest resistance, a considerably higher seed oil content (38-42%), adaptation to many different environmental conditions and satisfactory seed yield (700-2100 Kg/ha), in particular under relatively low-inputs management and on less productive areas without sufficient precipitation . However, there is a true limitation for Camelina in heavy soils and organic soils. The first spring cultivar, Soheil,  was registered in Iran, 2018. In  this year, more than 400 hectares  were cultivated in different climates, mainly in rainfed conditions.  Extending the cultivation of this low-inputs required oilseed to less productive lands could have a significant impact on reducing Iran's dependence on oilseed imports
